In 2024, the library received a mysterious donation from Dr. Ian Malcolm in our book donation bins. Not knowing what was inside, staff did our part and took care of the donated egg. On May 29, 2024, the egg hatched! The hatchling was hard to find at first, but we eventually tracked him down.

What we found was a big dinosaur with a big personality! His name is Thesaurus Rex, or Theo for short. Theo can be found all over the Library and the City. Besides hanging out at some of our programs, he visits other City Departments like Police and Fire.

The mischievous dino quickly became a crowd favorite and he even got a badge making him our official mascot. His curiosity, kindness, and love for the community make him the perfect representative for the Richland Public Library! Keep an eye out for Theo stickers when you see us at an outreach or watch our Event Calendar for Theo's next big appearance. One of Theo's favorite activities is visiting with his neighbors and hopes to see you at the Library soon!
